Los Angeles county may be burning down around me, but that doesn’t put a damper on my good mood. Why? Well, because Pure Luck is now open during the day and serving lunch. That’s why.
Pictured is “Todd’s BBQ Sandwich: BBQ jackfruit “pulled pork” with pickles and vegan mayo on a french roll”. I loved it, truly a finger lickin’ good sorta thing. The bread was perfectly crispy yet chewy, the jackfruit deliciously meaty yet light and the BBQ saucy perfectly sweet and tangy. This sandwich for sure gets two thumbs up. It comes with french fries or salad, and my salad was great. You might recall my last report on Pure Luck was mostly positive expect for the not so good salad. I was quite pleased to find they worked out their salad issues since my last visit, and this one was generous, fresh and tasty. The vegan Cesar salad dressing is really good.
You really must try this unique creation. You won’t believe how well jackfruit can pretend to be pork.
These are the equally fantastic “Palatanos Tacos: fried plantains and onions in a corn tortilla topped with sweet cream”. Got mine without onions and they were just divine. Yes, divine. Really. I don’t know what the sweet cream is made of but I can tell you that it’s sweet, and that it’s cream and that it’s so yummy you’ll wish you had an extra bowl of it so that you could eat it with a spoon. The whole shebang is a little bit greasy, but after all, this stuff is essentially gussied-up bar food so you get what you came for. And now you can get what you came for at lunch time too!
I HAVE to try this place! Maybe we could go there for our little vegan food fest…and it has to be on a day that Scoops is open, ‘cuz I’ve never been there either!

Nevertheless I have to ask you to sign the petition against Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, the ‘artist’ who starved [or "almost starved" like the gallery states after 27000 signed the boycott] a dog as an ‘art exhibition’, and/or spread the story to others. The fried spring roll is amazing! So inexpensive and delicious… 3$ and i am well stuffed. Yet to try the BBQ, but that is so about to change…
wow, the BBQ Sandwich and the Palatanos Tacos look fabulous!! The name of that restaurant is very fitting, since it WOULD be “pure luck” to find a dining establishment like it :0)

vegyogini: I think that’s a swell idea. Pure Luck has more space and larger tables so it’s probably a better group option anyways. Oh and of course, it will be so great to see you get your Scoops cherry popped!
a35mmlife: I have yet to try the spring rolls myself, but as you said… that’s all soon gonna change :)
VeggieGirl: Funny thing is that this place used to be a Korean restaurant by the same name. Apparently it wasn’t very good and people used to refer to it as Pure Yuck.
The fire situation is really terrible, but it’s something we’re sorta used to living down here. Every October things go all inferno on us. I live in the Valley so while I’m relatively sheltered from the fire areas, I am not sheltered from all the toxic smoke that pours into and fills up the Valley and just sits on top of us for days on end. I can’t breathe and my eyes are burning, but thankfully my home is intact and I’m not being evacuated, so I guess I can’t complain. Actually I can complain, but I’m counting my blessings at the same time.

oh wow. i think that i may have just wept out of joy that such food is available and out of pain that it is not currently available to me.
