I was eager to try the vegan sausage at HealthyCA, because well… it’s a freakin’ vegan sausage!

Vegan Sausage

Here’s the menu description: “Homemade vegan sausage served on sesame roll with tomato, mustard, mayo, lettuce, grilled onion and fresh red pepper and pesto sauces”. I got mine without the mayo (not vegan) and without the onions (ewww). The sausage was delicious and had a very appetizing texture. You wouldn’t mistake it for real meat as it was bit mushier than a real sausage but the flavors were spot on. The sesame roll was nice too, perfectly toasted. The two sauces that came on the side were both very tasty, I liked the pesto best and spread that on the inside of the bread. You get to pick a side with the entree, my choice here is their quinoa salad.

Here’s a closer look so you can see what the actual sausage looked like.

  1. for some reason, I can’t keep my eyes and thoughts off the bread. I mean, isn’t it the most beautiful thing ever? I need to put sesame seeds on my breads more often. too bad them seeds are not cheap.

  2. Indeed, the delicious bread was as much a star of the dish as was the sausage. And to think… I almost ordered it without bread!

  3. i just went and ate this for lunch after reading this. decent. its pretty much a veggie burger, not really fake sausage like you’d expect. whats up with the mound of pickels and peppers on the side?!! my plate had 7 peppers and 2 huge pickles. who would eat all those???

  4. street cloud: It really doesn’t taste like either real sausage or a veggie burger to me, it has it’s own flavor and texture. Whatever it is, I love it and crave it often.

As for the pickles and peppers… what can I tell ya? I guess I’d rather be served too much of a good thing rather than not enough.
