You really must try Madeleine Bistro. You're right, it is a "date-night" type of place, but lunch is about what you'll pay anywhere (sandwiches are $8 to $12 or so) and the weekend brunch is amazing. And if I may add a little news brief to this discussion:

Chef David Anderson, co-owner of Madeleine Bistro in Tarzana, will head to Walt Disney World alongside names like Todd English, Cat Cora, and G. Garvin for the 12th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, which began September 28 and runs through November 11.

Throughout the festival, Disney World Signature Restaurant chefs invite a celebrity chef into their kitchens to prepare a five-course meal. Anderson will create a gourmet vegan dinner with host chef Jens Dahlmann of Disney's California Grill on October 14. The menu will be accompanied by wines from Napa Valley's Merryvale Vineyards and Rudd Winery. Tickets for Anderson's dinner were $350 per person and sold out quickly, but Anderson will spend time in Orlando coaching other resort chefs on how to prepare high-end cuisine without animal ingredients. (Donald Duck can rest easy.)

Thanks.

Thanks for the info! I'll try Vinh Loi Tofu soon. :) Unfortunately, work will not permit me to go to HealthyCA during their normal business hours. Maybe on a rare day off. I love Madeleine's, but their prices do prevent me from eating there often. When you get the chance, try the Asian tacos, Asian spareribs, Wild mushroom tamales, and one of their desserts (I'm partial to the Bananas Foster Split and Creme Brulee, but their sorbets are awesome, too)! I'm thinking about going to the vegan potluck in Northridge at the end of this month (socalveg.org), so maybe I'll see you there. :)

Hi Vegyogini: So glad you like the blog! I'm working on putting together a page for you guys with all the locations and info on the restaurants featured here... hope to have that up real soon. In the meantime, you can find HealthyCA at:
4724 Lankershim Blvd
North Hollywood, CA 91602
(818) 505-1035
They are only open Mon-Fri, 10 - 5.
I suggest calling before you go to make sure they are open as sometimes they close early or just don't open at all. It's worth it though.

As for the other places you mentioned, I LOVE Follow Your Heart, just haven't been in there in quite sometimes with camera in tow. Hopefully I'll get back soon for their incredible vegan Reuben sandwich. Yum!

Madeleine's I haven't had the opportunity to try yet, but rest assured it's on my list and as soon as I get a chance I'll be there. Seems like the kind of place that would be nice for a special occasion like a birthday or something.

I hope you enjoyed your dinner at Real Food Daily... but then again, how could you not? And be sure to visit Vinh Loi Tofu when you get the chance, you'll become addicted like I did :)
