I finally got a chance to visit Vegetable Delight in Granada Hills and it was as great as I’d expected it to be.

This was the Lemon Veggie Chicken, a true winner in the “oh damn, this is SO good” department. The fake chicken is made of fresh mushrooms, soy bean flour and gluten. It’s got some sort of breaded outer layer, is fried to a degree of perfect crispiness, then coated in a thick, sweet and tangy lemon sauce. Served on a bed of cabbage and with brown rice. Really very delicious.
Vegetable Delight uses only natural ingredients and their chef hand makes everything. The menu is all vegan and ginormous. I’m talking 18 appetizers, 5 salads, 13 soups, 78 main courses, 20 rice & noodle dishes, and many other specialties like casseroles and sizzling plates. I am slightly in awe. Next time I’ll try something a little healthier and non-fried.

This is so good to know. I love the art of fake meat, but my enjoyment is always a bit tempered by the sneaking suspicion that the chicken came out of a bag and is probably loaded with all sorts of chemicals that I wouldn’t eat if I knew they were there, not to mention whey and/or eggs. So thanks. Perhaps there will be a trek to Granada Hills in my near future.
Trina: This place is totally worth the drive. Once you’ve stuffed yourself silly there, drive on over to Reseda to their sister restaurant, Garden Wok (not far from Vinh Loi).
My house is literally right down the street from Veggie Delight.
Now, I live in a very eclectic house. My mother is a “flexitarian” (for lack of a better word– she mostly eats vegetarian/vegan) and my father is a staunch omnivore. I am a strict vegan. Because of my eating habits, I pretty much win out in restaurant selection. Meaning I drag my omnivore father to vegan restaurants. Yeah. Mostly he sticks to vegetarian options and doesn’t go the extra mile.
At Veggie Delight, he doesn’t CARE. Seriously, he stuffs his face with seconds, thirds, fourths of this stuff, and even tells his meat-hoarding carnivore-to-the-core friends about this place, boasting its great Chinese food, period. The orange chicken is to die for, so is the veggie shredded pork, and the fried rices, AND they serve TJ’s ice cream for dessert (TJ’s has some of the best soy icecream EVER).
The owner is a super-nice vegan Chinese couple. You pretty much know all your food is completely vegan because the owners are completely vegan (if you talk to them, they are even raising their kids vegan now– upon the child’s request– quite a funny story).
Anyway, I’m glad that you reviewed this place, Foodeater. It’s amazing. So delicious. Yum. I wish you were closer so you could further review the menu, because baby, you haven’t even scratched the surface!
