I’m planning a romp through Portland, Oregon next weekend and hope to fit in as much awesome eating as is physically possible while visiting this vegan mecca.
While I’ve been pouring over all the vegan PDX food blogs and compiling quite a list of great ideas, I’d love to hear any last minute, non-obvious suggestions if anyone’s got any “must try” tips for while I’m there. Like, what’s the most amazing vegan thing that I absolutely have to eat while in town? Non-food tips and cool event suggestions welcome as well (not much of a drinker so you don’t need to tell me about your favorite pubs). Please reply in the comments… and thanks in advance! Expect a full report when I return, if I can fit back in the plane.
Update: I’m back!
Thank you ALL for your fine tips and suggestions, many of which were indeed followed, utilized and enjoyed. Stay tuned for a full report on all the massive quantities of delicious food that was consumed in PDX… I think I may have left you all with a shortage :) I’m closing the comments on this post because it’s making me feel guilty that people are still leaving helpful hints now that I’m already back home.

Check out www.VegPortland.com!
Check out www.happycow.net – great resource.
Have fun in PDX!
Jealous!
Here’s my suggestion: Pack me in your suitcase and take me along! Or, if you’re not willing to aid and abet a stowaway, just make sure to have a great time. You deserve some Foodeater-style pampering.
You must try “Blossoming Lotus” on 925 NW Davis – not only is it vegan – it also features raw foods. It is in a yoga studio called Pearl Yoga, in the Pearl district downtown. I crave their food to this day.
Go to www.blpdx.com for more info.
So I guess the vegan strip club is off your list? j/k I’m going next month and I am hitting it up just so I can say I’ve been to a vegan strip club~! But the Vegan Strip MALL is the better attraction. Food Fight Grocery, etc.
GOOD LUCK finding some awesome food in portland. i hear it isn’t difficult, i’m jealous of the stuff i’ve read about on those PDX blogs. i am headed to the bay area today, so hopefully i can try out some of the places on your SF list! so excited!
I lived there for 4 years. this place rules!!

I would definitely overlook Veganopolis and Vegetarian House.
I would check out Nutshell, Flavourspot waffle cart, Sweetpea Baking, Blossoming Lotus. for starters!
Nutshell & Flavour Spot waffles for sure! There’s also SIP the vegan milkshake cart, which I didn’t get to try. If you like raw food, I liked Blossoming Lotus, they have soft serve! A lot of the places are a bit boring; sandwiches, salads, & wraps. If you find yourself downtown & need a quick bite, No Fish, Go Fish is fun. Have a great trip!
nutshell is my favorite restaurant ever.
in addition to the ones people named, jace glace has vegan waffles, sweet pea bakery has a vegan buffet on sundays, and you have to hit up vita cafe or paradox (about the same menu)
Go to Flavorspot and Dove Vive.
Those two are probably the only not obvious place to check out.
You can see reviews at our website.
I just came back from Portland a few weeks ago and these are some of my favorites: veganopolis for desserts (some are from sweetpea but they make their own and they are GOOD), blossoming lotus had a really tasty raw platter (im sure the idea came straight from ani phyo) and a noodle dish with peanut sauce. Vita cafe is the place to go for breakfast with biscuits and gravy, corncakes, scrambles, etc. , Papa G’s had awesome biscuits and gravy as well and a really good nut loaf. Portlanders are not afraid of carbs and i miss their food everyday…
