This anything but humble offering is yet another fantastic lunch from the Taste of Life booth at the Hollywood Farmers Market. We’ve got the macaroni & cheese (so good and cheesy… how do they do it?), the pot roast (god I love this), the black-eyed peas (kinda plain but still tasty), and at the suggestion of one of my readers (thanks Scott!), the veggie lasagna. The lasagna was the only item I had not tried from these guys yet, and yeah, it was all that. The sauce was delicious and I don’t know what they used to simulate the Ricotta (tofu?), but it was spot on both in texture and taste. True, lasagna has got nothing to do with soul food… don’t ask me why they decided to add it to their menu. I for one am sure glad they did.
Oh and of course the cornbread on top was the proverbial icing on the cake. Although it wasn’t icing. And this wasn’t a cake. And I would have liked about two or three more pieces.
If you’re in L.A, head on over to the Hollywood Farmers Market tomorrow (if it’s not raining) (or on any given Sunday) and get your belly nice and full on some of this filling, comforting, fattening and authentically scrumptious down home cooking.

Hey! That mac n’ cheese is the best, but now I really want your lasagna. Also, just a quick PSA – I think the l.a. marathon is tomorrow which means that the hours for the farmers market are different, so check before you go.
Teenage Gluster: Oh… too late… I already saw your beefy post! My eyes are now bleeding (I kid, I kid). Enjoy your Soul Food tomorrow… if the nice man who runs the place is there, try to get him to fill your order… I find he’s always more generous with the cornbread than the others (though that might have something to do with me being female).
Damn! I may have to come to Hollywood, just for that dish! yum yum.

i’m glad you liked the lasagna. i think it’s my absolute favorite. i passed on the FM this weekend, with the reduced hours i wasnt sure who’d be there plus i needed to get to ikea before the throngs of people. i ended up making my awesome burritos last night. looking forward to next weekend though so i can get more lasagna and the piece of corn bread the was left off my plate last weekend.
Yes!!! Last week I had the kale and BBQ Tofu – which was incredible. This week I hosted a brunch at my house and was semi-confused while walking down to the FM (at 9:30 mind you) to find throngs of people flooding the streets. Ohhhh yeah the Marathon! In any case, about half the vendors were already there so I was able to stock up on strawberries and apples anyway. I love love love Taste of Life.
