You say it’s your birthday? Well it’s my birthday too yeah!

Actually, my real birthday isn’t for another week (Sunday May 10th, Mothers Day) but my week long b-day celebration got off to an epic start yesterday.
My fellow Taurus girlfriends and I, VegYogini (May 5th) of Huggerfood and Trina (May 2) of Your Vegan Mom pooled our resources and put together a mega Taurus birthday bash which we dubbed The Taurus Trifecta. We staged it at the fabulously cool & creepy Old Zoo in Griffith Park, invited a few of our closest friends, and had it catered with vegan hot dogs by The Frankenstand and mindblowing cupcakes by Vegan Bake Sale.
A swell and delicious time was had by all… too bad you missed it!

The master of vegan hot dogs sets up his stand in the shadow of the old bear enclosure. Those “toe tags” pictured top left are the cute tickets he designed which were handed out to our guests to redeem for hot dogs.
Those weren’t the only “buns in the oven” at our party :)

All the fixin’s.

My dog: “The Witch” beer brat with spicy brown mustard, fresh cilantro, sauerkraut and sweet relish.

More artistic hot doggery. The one on the left shows the other variety we offered, “The Franken”, a sundried tomato and basil, slighly sweet Italian frank.

Vegan Nachos! Your Vegan Mom made this incredible, slightly spicy cheese sauce. Unbelievable how much this tasted like the real thing. No, it tasted better than the real thing actually. I covered mine in hot jalapenos and took a visit to mouth-burning, cheesy heaven.

Chocolate Mousse Cake. A fantastic surprise from Brittany of Sick of Lettuce. This is a recipe from the Millennium cookbook though I’m willing to bet hers turned out even more beautiful than when they make it! Just look at that thing… truly a work of art.
Happy Birthday to us!
Oreo Cookie cupcakes by Vegan Bake Sale. Wow.
Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes by Vegan Bake Sale. Wow again!

Here’s the Chocolate Mousse cake covered with Brittany’s delicious raspberry goo.
Gigantor Lemon Poppyseed Cupcakes by JennShaggy… another delightful surprise.

Chocolate Chip cookies by VegYogini. Not a huge chocolate chip cookie fan but these might have just changed that for good.
Snickerdoodles by VegYogini. Yum!
What tasty fun! Thank you everyone who showed up, and extra special huge thanks to those who cooked, baked, brought extra tantalizing goodies, helped carry shit, helped to clean shit up, help to lift heavy hot dog carts up & down steep inclines, took pictures, sang us Happy Birthday, brought us awesome presents, or just plain ol’ came out and had a good time with us. Major kudos to Paul, Trina’s husband (Your Vegan Dad?) who not only helped by getting up way too early in the morning to secure the location, but who also did more than a lion’s share worth of transporting, carrying, cleaning, etc… You da man.
We were bummed to hear that Liz of Yo Soy! got into a minor car crash while looking for parking on the way to our party. Her doggie got tossed around in the car and had to be taken to the vet but from what I can tell both she and the dog are ok, thank goodness. Her car got smashed up and we never got to eat the (most certainly delicious) Dandies marshmallow cupcakes she made for us… how awful on all counts! Liz, we are so grateful for the effort you made to be there with us, and feel so bad that you and your sweet dog had to go through any of that. We enjoyed your cupcakes and your company in spirit and we’re so glad that it wasn’t worse. What’s a party without a little bit of drama, eh?
The best part is that I now get to pretend it’s my birthday for the next week and then get to celebrate it for real all over again next weekend. By the time this is over & done with you’ll all be so sick of hearing about my birthday… be glad it only happens once a year!

one of the best birthday parties I’ve been to in forever, and the only vegan one ever. i had a great time, thanks for inviting me!
That all looks unbelievably delicious. I just lost about 20 minutes of my life staring at that vegan mousse cake. Happy Birthdays, gals!
FUN!!!!! And happy birthday! And OMG, look at all those cupcakes (and big cake, too)! Well, I guess you did look at them. And eat them. You are so lucky! I should have pretended it was my birthday too and invited myself.
Mine is May 9! (And also, often, on Mother’s Day.) My all-day birthday plans this year involve breakfast at M Cafe de Chaya, *a possible hike in Hollywood inserted in this time slot*, the Craftsman Beer Festival at the Echo (with vegan snacks from Pure Luck), *possibly going home to watch some playoff hockey on TV in this spot*, dinner at Shojin, and a private karaoke party in Koreatown.
Your food all looks wonderful. All my favorite stuff, especially the nachos! I had the pleasure of trying Frankenstand for the first time about a week and a half ago. My favorite was the wolf, slathered with hot sauce, onion, cilantro and veganaise.
Happy birthday to all! Looks like amazing food and I am sure it was a fabulous group :c) What fun!
I cannot believe I missed this. Seriously. NOT COOL GUYS.
HAPPY BIRFDAY MY FELLOW TAURUS!!!! I’m 3 days after you…BIG HUGS AND HAPPY VEGANEATIN’

Thanks so much for everything yesterday! It was great to meet the people we hadn’t yet had the pleasure of meeting, and also great to see some of our new vegan friends again. This was the first party (apart from the ones we host) where we could eat all the food! And some amazing food it was. Happy Birthday to the Taurus Trifecta!

Franken’s: This party wouldn’t have been a party without you there. You made this shindig the stuff of legends! All hail The Frankenstand!!!
You guys certainly know how to throw a vegan party!!
Damn, I need to hook up with you ladies – my B-Day is today, May 5th…Para la proxima…
Oh wow! Happy Birthday to The Taurus Trifecta!!! You all really know how to throw a party!!! I’m just thrilled that such an amazing turn out is possible these days!!! What wonderful times we live in!!! Kristin and I are in the cold rain in Munich Germany eating at a Supreme Master Vegan restaurant, lol! Can’t wait to get back to LA and rejoin the fun!!!
Lex: We were bummed you guys had to miss it :( To tell you the truth though, I’d trade places with you Munich right now in a hot minute! München is one of my favorite cites on earth… I hope you guys are having a wonderful time, despite the cold rain.
Happy Birthday to you all! Looks like it was a lot of fun! :-)
That sounds like one of the best birthday parties yet! Happy almost birthday, and I’m now going to sulk because I don’t have any of that deliciousness here to eat.
Wow! Just getting around to my weekly blog reading, and those photos are great!
Thanks for the kinds words, m’lady :)
And happy birthday. Definitely good times had by all.
The Frankenstand is a real surprise. Who would figure to have a vegan hot dog stand. It’s great. The “Vegan Mom” desserts look sinfully good.
Happy belated birthday!! Just reading this post gives me food coma. More specifically, baked goodness coma.
Hope you had a fantastic one.
ok, i am a fellow vegan who just recently relocated to Glendale. i demand an invite for the next gathering ;-) i would love to meet the vegan ladies in this area!
A vegan hot dog stand, such a great idea! Those desserts look exquisite!
Much delayed (slow mo from across city?) high five on rad birthday party!
Oh hell yeah…the salty kind is the best. But I’m a weirdo and hate sweet foods. I love savory kugel, but don’t even try to come at me with the sweet variety. Ugh. That stuff was nasty.
That Frankenstand is amazing! Wish I lived in L.A., I’d love to hire him for an event.
Wow ! all those desserts look amazing !!
My favorite: those lemon poppyseed cupcakes. Recipes!!
all of the cupcakes look amazing, glad you had a lovely birthday!
Wow, that party looks like it sure was fabulous! And that spicy cheese sauce is something I need in my life! Do you know of the recipe, by chance? <3
